The workshop will focus on presentation, analysis, debate and improvisations of scenes of domestic violence given in cinema in the context of the respective home culture, mentality and social behaviour. It will include practical work in mixed groups with the aim to find alternative ways of interpreting certain violent, disturbing and painful scenes, from the point of view of both the victim and the perpetrator.
Young actors will be re-enacting certain scenes based on the prior collective conclusions and analyses. Another mixed group of film students of directing, camera, production and/or editing will cover certain issues from their professional and artistic point of view.
The project will also provide a session with a professional Dutch therapist who already has experience in working on the Balkans with people in need, often portrayed in cinema in the SEE region.

The program is based on collective assignments. All participants will be asked to work in mixed groups. The groups will be rotating, so that each participant will have a chance to closely experience the culture and individual character of participants from other countries. This brings diversity and enlarges the perception of thoughts about the daily assignments and the topic in general.

The official language during the workshop is English without translation. All participants are expected to be fluent in written and spoken English.

WHY
The chosen topic has very global connotation. It addresses all countries and not only Europe. Domestic violence is something that really happens every day, it is just a matter of it has been reported at all and if it is honestly presented in the media. Unfortunately, every country in the world is still infected by the social malignance domestic violence. The social anomaly is manifested in various forms, such as physical, psychological, sexual, economic and social violence. All forms are still very present in the European countries no matter the social and economical development. Some forms are more explicit then the others.  Media is one of the influential factors to this affection. The violence manifested in the movies most of the time reflects negatively to the audience, instead of educating and emancipating the same.

While people and various organization are trying to directly fight against the domestic violence, main question is still not answered of what the domestic violence is and is that acceptable is some cultures or not. What are the perspectives of the violence and how the young people think about? Recent analyses done in few South East European (SEE) counties have consequently created massive campaigns against domestic violence. The interviews with the young population, done by association of NGOs in Macedonia have proved that, for many youngsters smacking your girlfriend is not violence, if it is not done on regular bases!!! But, a rape is violence and molesting children is also violence, according to the same people interviewed. Some parents think that little physical violence has more didactic effect towards their children!!

In the SEE countries besides the lower level of economical development have slightly higher rate of domestic violence, compared to the west European countries. For instance the statistics prove that violent treatment of women is more expressed on the Balkan.
Economically developed countries, such as Netherlands are also facing good rate of domestic violence. The level of all forms in not the same, but is still present (data from central office for statistics).  The statistics tell that in 2009 every 10th child has been exposed to the domestic violence for example.

SHORT TERM OBJECTIVES
